Despite what you may have heard in the press about several of biggest poker sites closing down their US operations, online poker for US players is still readily available. And not just play-for-fun (aka play money) poker either: real money online poker with real money rewards.

Bovada Poker (Bovada.lv) is an offshoot of Bodog Poker (and Bodog Casino and Bodog Sports & Racebook, etc.) created by the Bodog folks when they realized they weren’t going to be able to carry on operations in the U.S. under their current moniker. So they created Bovada Poker which, so far, has been accepting real money US players. Bovada Poker’s promotional pallet features more cross-platform promotions than most sites. That is, promotions that reward poker players for trying out horserace betting or casino games.

Another seemingly new site on the US poker scene is America’s Cardroom. That’s “seemingly new” because in truth, it’s simply Doyle’s Room Poker with a facelift. After the events of April 15, 2011 (aka Black Friday) the Texas Dolly, Godfather of Poker and face of the site, Doyle Brunson opted to pull out of the U.S. market, forcing the closure of the site bearing his name and image. However, the folks behind Doyle’s Room still wanted to serve their loyal US customers, so they opened America’s Cardroom, a patriotic (even slightly military) themed poker room with a seemingly never-ending supply of special promotions and tournament series, including satellites.

One of the other sites serving US players has been doing so for a long time, and even in the face of closures (forced or pre-emptive) by some of their steepest competition, they’ve stuck to their guns and continued accepting US players, without changing their name or opening up a US-centric offshoot. That site is Cake Poker, the flagship site in the Cake Network. Cake Poker offers its card players an interesting diversion from its normal poker offerings with several other card games offering real money betting and rewards, including War and the newest Cake Poker innovation Russian Roulette Poker. There is plenty of information at americanpokeronline.com about this network and others.

Lock Poker is one of the longest standing and boldest US-focused poker sites, not even appearing to flinch in the face of US closures by its biggest rivals. Lady Luck must be in this site’s corner because it’s continued standing out as a US-friendly poker site when other site-owners seemed to be quivering in their boots and waffling over the fate of their US operations. Lock Poker isn’t big on satellites into land-based tournaments (although they do have them) with their regular promotions more internally focused: such as satellites for its big guaranteed tournaments and player points races.

All of these sites offering online poker for US players also run World Series of Poker Main Event satellite series’ each year.

The debate continues about whether or not online poker will be made legal for players in the US. Some, observing the pro-online gambling bills that keep cropping up in Congress and the rash of intrastate online gambling laws in certain states to work around the Federal restriction, say US online poker legalization is inevitable: imminent, even. Others, like former WSOP champion and long-time poker pro Phil Hellmuth believes it’s not happening anytime soon: not in 2012 at least, he claims.

But regardless of the debate, one thing is for certain: US players eager to play online poker for real money will always be able to find some sites willing to take their money.

For updated information about the fight to legalize online poker in the US, and to participate, contact the Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the organization at the forefront of this battle.

While online poker players in the United States are busy picking up the pieces from the recent government shutdown of US operations for three of the world’s top poker sites, players in the rest of the world are continuing to enjoy the bounty of those and other sites where the action is still raging.

Sites like Carbon Poker and Titan Poker that serve players in the UK, Europe and elsewhere on the planet other than the United States are still seeing record numbers of players sitting down at their tables. And at sites like Titan Poker and Carbon Poker bonus code offerings are on the rise. Make no mistake, the world of online poker is still thriving.

Plenty of tables are having cards dealt as you read this, and plenty of tournaments are in full swing.Granted, if you live in the US you may have to look a little harder for a site that will take your money (Titan Poker won’t, Carbon Poker will) but wherever you reside don’t think for one second that the US battle against online poker has in any way jeopardized the game.

The UIGEA is in full effect now, there’s no denying it. Poker Stars, Absolute Poker and Full Tilt Poker are no longer available to the USA poker playing public. Does that mean all hope is lost for would-be online poker players in the USA? Hardly.

Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006, preventing US players from participating in online poker by making it a crime for US banks to process transactions for offshore gambling sites. Aand despite all recent efforts, even within the halls of Congress, to overturn it, repeal it or replace it with a better law, as of December 2010 the law has gone into effect, after giving sites and banks time to comply with the new regulations. Now the full scale enforcement effort is on.

Despite that, several poker site owners are still being brave (or would it be brazen?) enough to continue opening their doors to US players, serving real money Texas Holdem poker games and tournaments to all-comers.

Besides their many time-sensitive promotions that come and go, both Titan Poker and Poker Stars offer their players ways to win big money on a regular and consistent basis, with tournament promotions that run like clockwork.

In the case of PokerStars real money is at stake every Sunday with five regularly scheduled big money tournaments: the Sunday 500, Sunday 1/4 Million, Sunday Second Chance, Sunday Warm-Up and of course, the granddaddy of them all, the Sunday Million.

Titan Poker takes a different approach to the regular big money tournament promotion. Rather than holding a regularly scheduled weekly event, the site hosts ongoing sit ‘n’ go jackpot tournaments. These are progressive jackpots that keep adding up until someone wins them, and when you download Titan Poker you get to play four of them: the $2,000 Dirty Dozen Jackpot Sit ‘n’ Go, the $15,000 Maui Progressive Jackpot, the $25,000 Rio Progressive Jackpot and the $50,000 Fort Knox Progressive Jackpot.

One of the oldest casino gambling games known to man, craps dates as far as back as the 11th century at least. Known throughout Europe until the 1800s as “Hazard”, there are a few things to know about this game to keep playing it from being a hazard to your bankroll.

1. The basic bets are the best, and really all you need to know to play; you can excel in craps without ever even learning all the other fancy ways to bet on the game.
2. Craps is well-worth the time you spend learning it, as it boasts one of the highest payouts of any casino game.
3. Beware of online casino bonuses that don’t count bets placed in craps toward bonus clearing requirements.
4. No craps betting system will make you a more successful player or reduce the house advantage; placing the bets you’re most comfortable with is the actual best way to win.
5. There’s no better friend to an online craps player than a solid craps guide to study and refer to for guidance on continually improving your game.

Poker deposit bonuses are not static promotions. The amount of money a poker site awards to players making a deposit into a real money online poker account may vary in both the percentage of the deposit matched and in the maximum bonus amount a player can potentially earn. They will also vary considerably in the specific requirements they have for players to clear their bonuses, or convert them from bonus cash that can only be used on the site to actual cash that can actually be withdrawn from the real money online poker account if the player wishes.

Poker deposit bonus codes are associated with specific bonuses, with specific percentage matches, specific maximum bonus amounts, and specific clearing requirements. To be sure that you get the poker bonus you believe you have coming to you, make sure to enter in the proper poker deposit bonus codes when you make your deposits.

Not all online gambling websites are built alike. Different sites excel in certain areas while maybe falling behind others in certain other areas.

For example: games. Some online gambling websites might excel in table games like Blackjack, Baccarat or Roulette, while other sites might excel in different versions of Poker, while still others might have the best selection of slots, including those with progressive jackpots.

Speaking of progressive jackpots, another way of evaluating the best online gambling websites is by the amount of money they give away. When looking at sites this way, people may favor a site with loads of big progressive jackpots and casino tournaments over those with just the standard fare of games.

Still other players will evaluate online gambling websites based on the quality of game play, such as by the realistic look and feel of the gaming software or by whether or not they offer a quality live casino with quality live dealers.

When US players are looking for the best sites for poker tournaments, they shouldn’t just be looking for a list of poker sites accepting US players. Not all poker sites cater to all types of players, and some sites are better for cash game players than for tournament players.

So a US player’s search for online poker tournaments they can enter may start with a search for poker sites accepting US players. But it should not end there. From there it should dig deeper into which of those sites are the best sites for poker tournaments.

You can usually tell this one of two ways. Either by reading the reviews that usually go along with the list of sites. But sometimes they all sound the same, like variations on a marketing theme. Without honest user reviews of the site, you can’t really be sure what you’re being sold on.

But you can conduct your own comparisons. Look to see which sites offer the widest array of tournament types: not just No Limit but Fixed Limit and Pot Limit too; not just Texas Hold’em but Omaha, Stud, Draw, HORSE and Lowball too; not just regular MTTs but short-handed tables and Sit ‘n’ Go tournaments too. Then look at the array of satellite tournaments, freeroll tournaments, and other specialty tournaments like Bounty tournaments too. This will tell you the best sites accepting US players that are also the best sites for poker tournaments.
